It´s all about wrecks and caves

Kaş in Turkey belongs to the top 100 dive sites in the world. Even for a Mediterranean location, this spot is full of marine life and even ancient relics can be discovered.

Turkey officially the Republic of Turkey is a transcontinental country straddling Southeastern Europe and Western Asia. It is bordered on its northwest by Greece and Bulgaria; north by the Black Sea; northeast by Georgia; east by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran; southeast by Iraq; south by Syria and the Mediterranean Sea; and west by the Aegean Sea.

The diving capital of Turkey is Kaş. Over 30 dive spots can be discovered, all reachable by 20-minute boat rides. You can explore some interesting wrecks, deep canyons and caves. Sometimes there are also underwater exhibitions, that you can visit.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT TURKEY?

The best time to dive in Turkey is in the European summer, so between June and September. At this time the sea conditions are calm and the water temperature is above 21 degrees Celsius. The Mediterranean Sea has clear visibility between 20 and 40 meters.

 

WHAT ARE THE BEST DIVE SITES IN TURKEY?

The Dakota Plane in Kas is a plane sunk in 2009 at 22 meters as an artificial reef. It is covered in colorful algae. It is a very popular dive site for underwater photographers as it is relatively uncommon to shoot an underwater plane.

Amphora Bay in Fethiye is an extraordinary dive site, as you can see ancient Roman amphorae that date back to 300 BC. There´s also lots of marine life including octopus, crayfish and grouper. You can also dive through three tunnels in 36 meters.

Aladdin’s Cave is a unique dive site at 29 meters. You can see colorful corals and resident groupers. After a few minutes you decent to 12 meters into the hammam. A natural cavern with beautiful light, shining from the surface inside the cave.

 

LIVEABOARDS IN TURKEY

There are plenty of other dive sites around the Turkish islands in the Mediterranean to explore. The best way to explore most of them is by a liveaboard trip. In Turkey, it is common to use a sailing boat as a liveaboard. Probably the most relaxing way of a diving safari.
