RED SEA DIVING AT ITS BEST

Egypt is not only famous for its spectacular ancient sites above the surface. Find some great wrecks, spectacular underwater landscapes, reefs and colorful marine life underwater on a liveaboard trip in the Red Sea.

Egypt is a transcontinental country spanning the northeast corner of Africa and southwest corner of Asia by a land bridge formed by the Sinai Peninsula. With the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, it has very long shores and beautiful beaches to offer.

Especially the Red Sea attracts divers from all over the world. It is famous for amazing colorful coral reefs, diverse marine life, spectacular wrecks and sharks. Liveaboards operate in all regions of the Red Sea. The South, which is more popular for bigger pelagics, the North, which is a must for wreck-lovers. Or combine the best of both Red Sea regions. The diving conditions are suitable for beginners. However, a few dive sites experience stronger currents and are more suitable for advanced divers. It is also a very attractive region for technical divers as the visibility is great and the access to deeper dive spots is easy.

WHEN TO VISIT EGYPT

Egypt is a year-round diving destination. The sea is mostly calm and the water temperature doesn´t fall beneath 20 degrees, even in winter. Diving is conducted throughout the whole year. Only during winter, the wind can be a bit stronger. The visibility is great most of the year and ranges from 15 up to 30 meters. 

BEST DIVE SPOTS IN EGYPT

The SS Thistlegorm is widely known as one of the best wreck dives in the world. This British merchant navy ship was sunk by German forces on the 6th of October 1941 close to Sharm el Sheikh. The wreck lies upright in a depth of 30 meters. Divers can still find motorbikes, tanks, cars and even a train at the Thistlegorm.

The Blue Hole is only one of 3 real blue holes in the world and can be found off the shore of Dahab in the Gulf of Aqaba. The hole is 48 meters wide and 121 meters deep. It has an arch that starts at around 56 meters and goes out into the blue. This arch attracts many divers and unfortunately, the Blue Hole got his second name “Divers Graveyard” because many divers lost their lives here. But for recreational divers, it is an easy dive with good visibility and no current. 

The Brother Islands are two small islands 96 km off the coast of Egypt. These dive spots are more for the advanced divers, as the currents can be stronger and the waves higher. But the place has much to offer, including sharks, drift dives and two wrecks.

LIVEABOARDS IN EGYPT

There´s a huge number of liveaboard companies in Egypt. The tours start either from Hurghada, Port Ghalib, or some of them in Sharm el Sheikh. Trips usually go out for 7 days and explore the South, the North or some longer trips combine even both regions. 

Many of the liveaboard trips in Egypt have a very reasonable price when compare to the rest of the world. But don´t worry, the ships in Egypt belong to the best in the world. You won´t miss any comfort. And the diving is just exceptional.
