The Cayman Islands is an autonomous British Overseas Territory in the western Caribbean Sea. The three islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are located to the south of Cuba and northeast of Honduras. The area is one of the top scuba diving destinations in the world. The visibility ranges from 18 – 30 meters and the average water temperature is 26 – 28°C. 

Las islas ofrecen paredes espectaculares que se hunden a más de 1800 metros. Las Islas Caimán son famosas por sus encuentros con rayas en Stingray City, donde se dice que las rayas son casi mansas. Y la isla de Gran Caimán alberga una granja de tortugas, por lo que es raro bucear sin ver al menos una de las especies residentes.

MEJOR ÉPOCA PARA VISITAR LAS ISLAS CAIMÁN

La temporada más popular es entre mediados de diciembre y mediados de abril, ya que es la época con más turistas. Sin embargo, las Islas Caimán tienen condiciones climáticas aceptables durante todo el año. En septiembre hay pocas posibilidades de que haya huracanes, pero los huracanes no son comunes aquí. La temperatura del aire oscila entre 24 y 28 grados, mientras que la temperatura del agua oscila entre 26 y 30 grados.

MEJORES SITIOS DE BUCEO EN CAIMÁN

Pared de 3 brazas (tazón para mezclar). This is the crossroads of Bloody Bay Wall. Here, the “shear” wall, meets the “gentle slope”. This site offers more fish than any site in Little Cayman. Schools of Bermuda chub, 3-spotted goatfish, snappers and grouper of all sorts can be identified here. The dive site is home to an array of creatures, including the timid yellowhead jawfish, lobster, turtles and early rays. Occasionally reef sharks or nurse sharks can be spotted too.

David Nicholson (naufragio). This “front end loader” was named for the late Dave Nicholson who was a diving icon of the Cayman Islands. Lying just offshore of the Sunset House Hotel, one can sometimes find lobster and large grouper under the stern of the wreck. A great “photo op” is also available at the statue of the Mermaid (designed by Simon Morris).

Gruta del Diablo/Eden Rock. Una de las inmersiones que hicieron tan famosa a Gran Caimán. Ubicados frente a la costa en las afueras de George Town, se pueden explorar los pasajes de estos dos sitios de buceo. La profundidad máxima es de 13m.

Más sitios de buceo: Arrecife del pez ángel, Los dedos de coral y las pequeñas cabezas de coral hacen que esta vista sea realmente agradable tanto para el buceo nocturno como para el buceo diurno. El naufragio balboa que se encuentra a tan solo 12m. Este sitio generalmente se realiza como inmersión nocturna. Y Grandes túneles, highlighted by three swim thru’s ranging from 24m-39m. Tarpon is sometimes found in and around this site.
